Important Ingredients with Substitutions

- Milk - For this recipe, you can use whichever milk you prefer. I typically default to using 2% milk. You can in turn use buttermilk as well.
- Spices - I really enjoy the combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. If you're missing one, or simply dislike one or another just omit and replace with the same amount of cinnamon.
- Cold Ingredients - Milk, butter, and eggs should be taken out of the fridge about 30 minutes before starting to come to room temperature.

CINNAMON STREUSEL INGREDIENTS

Instructions for cinnamon streusel muffins
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375F, and line a muffin tin with paper liners. Depending on the size of your muffin pan, you may need a couple of prepared muffin tins.

Step 2: In a large mixing bowl sift and whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground cloves.

Step 3: In a separate bowl, or bowl of your stand mixer, add the granulated sugar and softened butter. Cream together until light and fluffy.
Step 4: Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Step 5: Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and whole milk, alternating between the two until the muffin batter is smooth and well combined.
Step 6: To make the cinnamon crumb topping: In a medium bowl mix together the flour, cinnamon, sugar, melted butter, and salt until it forms a crumbly mixture.
Step 7: Fill the muffin cups about ⅔ full with the muffin batter. Sprinkle a generous amount of the crumbly topping over each muffin, pressing it lightly into the batter.
Step 8: Bake the muffins for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into moist muffins in the center comes out clean, and the tops are golden brown.
Step 9: Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Hint: For bakery-style jumbo muffins, fill each muffin cup almost to the top with batter before adding the streusel topping. To avoid the muffin tops from sticking to one another, fill only every other muffin cup.

Recipe Variations
- Apple Cinnamon Streusel Muffins: Add diced apples to the muffin batter to create a delightful apple-cinnamon twist. Replace the spices in the muffin and the crumb topping with apple pie spice.
- Blueberry Cinnamon Streusel Muffins: Gently fold fresh or frozen blueberries into the muffin batter for a burst of juicy sweetness.
- Nutty Delight: Sprinkle nuts, like walnuts or chopped pecans, into the streusel topping for a crunchy texture.
- Coffee Cake Muffins: Double the streusel topping. Fill the muffin cups ¼ of the way, add streusel, fill again with muffin batter, then top with streusel. Top cinnamon swirl muffins with vanilla glaze.
Storage Recommendations
To keep the cinnamon streusel muffins fresh and delicious, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Can I freeze cinnamon muffins? If you want to extend their shelf life, you can freeze the muffins for up to 3 months. Just make sure to wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil before placing them in a freezer-safe bag.

Level Up With Expert Tips & Tricks
Avoid overmixing the muffin batter, as it may result in dense and tough muffins. Mix until just combined for a tender texture.
Feel free to adjust the amount of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in the recipe according to your taste preferences. You can also add a pinch of ginger for extra warmth and flavor.
Alternating dry and wet ingredients to prevent the batter from becoming too thick and difficult to mix. This technique allows for an even distribution of ingredients and avoids clumps of flour in the final batter.
Fill the prepared muffin tin with batter using an ice cream scoop. This will make sure all muffin liners have the same amount of batter, letting the muffins bake evenly.
